The Cross of Christ

The cross of Christ is God’s righteous solution to the problem of sin and His greatest display of love toward sinners. At the cross, God judged our sin as His righteousness required, and saves the sinner as His love desires. Law and grace, life and death, time and eternity all intersect at the cross, displaying a divine wisdom that staggers the imagination and leads the humble heart to bow in thankful adoration. To understand the cross of Christ is to understand the heart of God toward a fallen world He wants to save.

The gospel is good news because it solves our greatest problem. We are sinners, separated from a holy God and unable to save ourselves (Rom. 3:10, 23). Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, added perfect humanity to Himself, lived a sinless life, and died a substitutionary atoning death on behalf of all mankind (John 1:1, 14; 1 Pet. 2:22, 24; 1 John 2:2). We are saved by Christ and His work, not by ourselves or anything we do. No amount of morality, religion, good works, or human effort can remove our guilt or earn eternal life (Eph. 2:8-9; Tit. 3:5). What we could never do for ourselves, God did for us through Jesus Christ. He died in our place, bearing the judgment our sins deserved, and rose bodily from the dead (1 Cor. 15:3-4; 1 Pet. 3:18). The problem is sin. The solution is Christ. The price has been paid. The work is finished.

God now offers eternal life as a free gift to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:16; 6:47; Rom. 6:23). You do not need to clean up your life, make promises to God, perform religious works, or prove yourself worthy. Christ has already done the work necessary to save you. Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life” (John 6:47). The issue is simple and personal: Will you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior? The moment you believe in Him, you receive eternal life.

Believing in Jesus as Savior is the most important decision you can make in life. It determines where you will spend eternity. Do not delay another moment. Believe in Christ and receive God’s gracious gift of eternal life. The matter is simple: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
